Five heavyweight contests brought Convoy in the Park to a stunning conclusion on Sunday at Donington Park.

Three races for the British Truck Racing Championship, and a pair of International Truck Prix contests were the on track highlights, as the heavy metal line-up thrilled thousands of spectators in the East Midlands.

Reigning champion Ryan Smith won all three races for the British championship, despite starting seventh and eighth on the grid for the latter events. The reigning eight-time champion therefore had to work for his triumphs, finding his way past his rivals to deliver plenty of excitement for the fans who lined the extensive bankings around the circuit.

The International Truck Prix contests provided plenty more drama on track, with Jamie Anderson winning his third race of the event in this morning’s battle, which saw Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness claim a maiden podium with third place.

Anderson then completed his clean sweep of the event after battling to victory in the fourth contest, which brought the whole event to a close.  Starting from the penultimate place on the grid, Anderson quickly worked his way up the order, and squeezed into the lead past John Newell on the run through the Craners on lap four. He then stretched his advantage to head home Newell, with Martin Gibson earning the final spot on the podium.

As well as the ferocious on track action, there was another huge bundle of family fun around the venue. Under day-long sunny skies, fans were able to get up close to hundreds of show trucks on the infield, enjoy live music, and family activities around the venue.

The off track package was brought to a spectacular conclusion, with two caravans being smashed to smithereens at the Live Action Arena towards the end of the day. The agility of the big machines was also demonstrated with truck drift sessions.

The next major event at Donington Park is Tunerfest Midlands next Sunday (18 August), with tickets available in advance by clicking here.
