Donington Park hosts the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship in just over a week’s time (22/23 August) and the series’ second visit of 2026 to the East Midlands couldn’t come at a more crucial time for the main title protagonists. Ash Sutton heads into the event on the full Grand Prix circuit with what appears to be a commanding 81-point lead in the standings. The NAPA Racing UK is in a fantastic position, but the BTCC is unpredictable, and the four-time title winner will be more than aware that he can’t take anything for granted.
That’s especially true when his primary rival is another multiple champion, and the winner of last year’s crown, Tom Ingram. The Hyundai driver will need to produce a superb weekend at Donington Park if he’s to make dramatic inroads into Sutton’s advantage.
Behind the leading duo, it’s Sutton’s teammate Dan Cammish who comes next in the order, and he’s only 13 point in arrears of Ingram. Cammish is possibly too far behind Sutton to mount an outright title push, but he represents a very real threat to Ingram’s second place in the standings at Donington.
Others to watch out for include Ricky Collard, who has been arguably the best performer on the grid not to bag a victory. A handful of other drivers have enjoyed a trip to the top step of the podium though, such as Charles Rainford, who has twice tasted victory in his WSR BMW, while Mikey Doble returns to the venue at which he won the first race of the year in one of the new-for-2026 Audi A3 Saloons.
Josh Cook has also been a victor this year, as have Aron Taylor-Smith, Tom Chilton and Gordon Shedden. Another story has been the maiden campaign for the Cataclean Plato Racing squad with its pair of purple Mercedes. Daniel Rowbottom gifted the team a dream start with a win in the inaugural Saturday ‘Race to Pole’ at Donington Park in April, and Adam Morgan recently delivered a maiden main race win.
As with all BTCC events in 2026, there will be a single practice session on Saturday morning before the 'Race to Pole' which sets the grid via a traditional qualifying session and short race. Sunday will feature the usual headline triple-header, with a reverse grid finale adding to the unpredictability.
