BTCC Free Practice: Ingram sets early Donington Park pace

22 August 2026

Tom Ingram went fastest in the sole Free Practice session of Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship weekend at Donington Park this morning. The Hyundai ace lapped the Grand Prix circuit in 1m33.490s, ensuring he topped the order of this afternoon’s all-important Race to Pole qualifying process.

Ingram’s best time put him more than a tenth clear of the next quickest competitor, Mikey Doble in the first of the Power Maxed prepared Audi A3 Saloons. Dan Rowbottom rounded out the top three in his CPRL Mercedes, just over a tenth further back from Doble.

Charles Rainford topped the session for a time earlier on in his WSR BMW, but wound up fourth at the end of the 50-minute track period. He was marginally faster than Adam Morgan in the second CPRL Mercedes, who in turn was just more than a tenth faster than Aron Taylor-Smith’s chrome blue Toyota.

Four-time title winner Ash Sutton ran strongly throughout the session too, moving to the head of the standings with just over 20 minutes to go. The series leader ended the session seventh, ultimately just under half a second away from Ingram’s leading effort.

Ricky Collard and Tom Chilton were eighth and ninth in two more of the Team VERTU Hyundais, with Josh Cook’s Toyota completing the top 10.
